Deputy High Court Judge Stuart Isaacs QC
will preside over the cross-examination of two experienced expert witnesses by senior barristers in a live roleplay with tips on how to handle cross-examination.

Legal Experience Training is delighted to offer you the opportunity to join a live master-class role play. You will learn from watching intensive cross-examination of two experienced expert witnesses by two senior barristers. You will be provided with extracts of the experts reports and a summary of the evidence ahead of the session to assist your learning. You can then put yourself into the shoes of the two experts and consider how you would handle the cross-examination!

Experts give evidence infrequently and benefit from refreshing and developing skills in handling challenging cross-examination. The intensive cross-examination role play of two experienced experts with detailed feedback will assist experts to understand how to handle robust cross-examination while remaining clear, honest, objective and helpful. The importance of preparing to answer questions by evaluating strengths and weaknesses in the evidence and using objective reasoning will be demonstrated.

Learning outcomes
•Identify what topics that will come up under cross-examination and how you will handle them
•Consider how you will demonstrate the factual/evidential basis for your opinion
•Being familiar with key documents that may be referred to during cross-examination
•Give evidence with confidence, clarity and confidence
•Delivery of a well- reasoned objective opinion and consideration of alternative methods and facts
•Anticipate and deal with strengths and weaknesses in the expert evidence on both sides
•Effective communication of complex technical evidence and reasons for agreement/disagreement
•Handle challenging cross-examination techniques
•Assist a decision maker understand facts and underlying methodology in reaching a conclusion
